چکیده

A simple theoretical study of the linear electro-optic effect is presented. This semiclassical approach is based on the single-energy-gap model, the dielectric theory and the concepts of bond charge and effective ionic charge. A general expression is obtained for the electro-optic coefficient of a crystal and is applied to a wide variety of diatomic and ternary compounds including zincblende (GaAs, Gap, ZnSe, ZnS. ZnTe, CuCI), wurtzite (ZnS, CdS, CdSe), quartz (SOz), lithium niobate (LiNbO3, LiTa03), KDP (KH2P04, KD2P04, NHsHzPOd), chalcopyrite (AgGaS2, CuGaS2) and proustite (Ag3AsS3). The calculated results are generally in good agreement with experiment.

Simulation and Design of an Organic Quantum Film Electrooptic Switch

In this paper the simulation and design of a quantum-film electro-optic switch is considered. This photonic device, is made from a new organic dipolar material called MNA or 2-methyl-4 nitroaniline, which possesses a high merit in comparison with it's inorganic counterparts (e.g. LiNbO3, GaAs, InSb, Quartz, etc). Montecarlo method is used to simulate the photon-it-electron interaction in this m...

Modeling of strain-induced Pockels effect in Silicon.

We propose a theoretical model to describe the strain-induced linear electro-optic (Pockels) effect in centro-symmetric crystals. The general formulation is presented and the specific case of the strained silicon is investigated in detail because of its attractive properties for integrated optics. The outcome of this analysis is a linear relation between the second order susceptibility tensor a...

Influence of damping on the vanishing of the linear electro-optic effect in chiral isotropic media

Using first principles, it is demonstrated that radiative damping alone cannot lead to a nonvanishing linear electro-optic effect in a chiral isotropic medium. This conclusion is in contrast with that obtained by a calculation in which damping effects are included using the standard phenomenological model. We show that these predictions differ because the phenomenological damping equations are ...

خواص نوری- مغناطیسی و ضرایب اپتیکی لایه‌های نازک منگنز-کبالت

Having precise hysterics loop of thin ferroelectric and ferromagnetic layers for optical switching and optical storages are important. A hysterieses loop can be achieved from a phenomenon call the magneto-optic effect. The magneto-optic effect is the rotation of a linear polarized electromagnetic wave propagated through a ferromagnetic medium. When light is transmitted through a layer of magnet...

Giant electro-optic effect using polarizable dark states

The electro-optic effect, where the refractive index of a medium is modified by an electric field, is of central importance in non-linear optics, laser technology, quantum optics and optical communications. In general, electro-optic coefficients are very weak and a medium with a giant electro-optic coefficient would have profound implications for non-linear optics, especially at the single phot...
